Town and Country
Located just 20 minutes from Ridgway, and 35 minutes from the town of Telluride, the cabin balances access to food and shopping with proximity to National forest access. With countless trails, rivers and lakes to explore, it’s the ideal location for anyone looking to experience all that the Telluride area has to offer.
A few of our favorites…
Downtown Telluride
At the base of bridal veil falls, Telluride is situated in a picturesque box canyon. Initially born as a silver mining camp, the town wasn’t created until gold was struck high above the valley in 1875. Telluride truly spans all 143 years of history – containing relics from its days as a boomtown, up into present day with fine dining and world class skiing. Unlike any other town in Colorado, main street Telluride is truly special. A few standout festivities include the Telluride Bluegrass festival, Blues and Brews, and the Telluride Film Festival.
Blue Lake
6.6 miles round-trip, the hike up to Blue Lake is worth every step. Rated as ‘moderate’ this hike can be taken at any pace. With a 2,000 ft elevation gain, you’ll be rewarded with an impossibly blue alpine lake at the very top. Pack a picnic and take in the view. You’ll pass through a variety of ecosystems, with the summit emerging above tree-line. The trailhead can be found at the end of county road 7 off of highway 62.
Last dollar road
Upon leaving the cabin, you’ll pass by the filming location for the original John Wayne classic, “True Grit”. The historic Last Dollar Road will follow shortly after. It’s a moderate 4x4 dirt road that will take you all the way into Telluride. For those with a car capable of the journey, you’ll experience a view and route that few get to see. The road can be affected by the seasons, so we recommend searching for up-to-date road conditions before you set out. Keep your eyes open for large herds of elk, deer, bears and even mountain lions.
Ouray
Located in another box canyon down past the town of Ridgway, you’ll find Ouray. Nicknamed ‘little Switzerland’ the nickname will be clear when you see the sheer cliffs that are tucked up immediately adjacent to town. Well known for ice climbing and hot springs, Ouray makes a great day trip from the cabin. Ouray plays host to a bevy of off roading trails, and hikes scattered throughout the nearby national forests.
